Am I eligible?

Veterans: Individuals who have served in the Australian Defence Force (ADF) and have a recognised hearing loss related to their service. Eligibility often includes those with a DVA (Department of Veterans’ Affairs) card.

Pensioners: Individuals who receive an Australian Government pension, such as the Age Pension, Disability Support Pension, or other related benefits, are eligible for our hearing services for pensioners

Who is eligible for veterans and pensioner hearing services?

Eligibility includes Australian Defence Force veterans (Gold or White Card holders for hearing loss) and pensioners holding Age or Disability Support Pension concession cards

You can receive fully or partially subsidised hearing aids, assistive listening devices, hearing assessments, fittings, training, maintenance, repairs, and battery supply under the Australian Government’s Hearing Services Program (HSP) and DVA schemes

No referral is required. Veterans and pensioners can directly book appointments, although some providers may request concession card details during booking

Fully subsidised (“free-to-client”) devices and services are available. However, you may choose a higher-spec hearing aid with extra features via a “top-up” fee; providers must give you a full quote including any gap cost

A new government-funded hearing aid is available every five years. Early replacements may be approved under exceptional circumstances

Yes—batteries, repairs, cleaning, and annual maintenance agreements are provided at no cost under HSP and DVA for eligible veterans and pensioners

Definitely. ALDs—such as TV streamers, remote microphones, induction loops, doorbell/smoke alert adapters—are fully subsidised for eligible clients under the Hearing Services Program or the DVA Rehabilitation Appliances Program

A comprehensive audiological evaluation is included: otoscopy, pure-tone audiometry, speech testing (including tinnitus if applicable), and consultation to determine suitable devices .

Yes—clinicians provide guidance on device use, hearing strategy counselling, follow-up fittings, and ongoing rehabilitation services, which are funded under HSP

You can choose a partially subsidised device with advanced features. Providers must offer fully subsidised alternatives first, and you can apply rebates from private health funds to reduce the top-up cost
